It’s often said that the most successful leaders have a strong team around them.

The best leaders give all the credit to their team.

The key to this is that the leader realizes the people they are surrounding themselves with are in some way superior to themselves. This doesn’t mean the leader herself isn’t talented, but she sure is bright! I know I was told this often from a young age by my sports enthusiast family … hence, there is no “I” in “TEAM.”

The point is, that great leaders have always been able to ask for help when they need it. At least they’ve learned the value in asking for help. They realize that it helps them find a solution to a problem more quickly. They see that another person’s genius work can compliment and multiply the effects of their own genius work.

Perhaps most importantly, they are grateful for this help and communicate their gratitude.

This is the difference between GOOD and GREAT.

Obviously this isn’t a new concept, but I’m here to encourage you to think about who you already have on your support team and who you should consider adding – both personally and professionally.

First consider your current support team.

How grateful are you for what they have helped you achieve? Have you expressed this gratitude toward them?

Your current team may include family, close friends, web designers, business coaches, financial planners, etc.

Take a moment now to fully feel that gratitude and recognizing what you’ve already achieved.

Now, consider how you could expand that team. Who else could really move you to ‘kick it up a notch?’

Think about your financial goals

Do you really have time to wade through the murky waters of where to invest and what to save? Hire a professional and you’ll increase your overall earning exponentially which will far outweigh any cost.

If you have your own business, you need to have a CPA and a bookkeeper on your team – that should be one of the first places you invest. It’s not most people’s genius work and it’s really easy to muck up!

Think about your fitness goals

Do you think you know a lot but you’ve plateaued? Time to bring a professional for support and motivation.

Or perhaps you don’t know where to start, so it’s overwhelming.

And maybe it’s not a professional, but a friend who is an ally and wants to achieve a similar goal. You can keep each other motivated (and/or split the cost of a personal trainer!).

How would feeling healthy and strong support your personal and professional success?

Think about your business goals

What do you spend time on that you could outsource? Bills and Organizing? Taxes? Administrative duties?

Make a list of all the things that you have to do on a daily basis and highlight the ones you LOVE to do. Star the ones that you do well and don’t mind doing.

Everything that isn’t starred or highlighted should be outsourced as soon as possible.

Everything that is starred should be outsourced eventually, but isn’t as high a priority to outsource.

Your time is too valuable for these things you don’t love to do and isn’t your genius work. It may take time to get used to outsourcing, so maybe you take it one item at a time.

TIME is MONEY! Delegate! This is true whether you have your own business or work for a company – if you want to get to the next level you need to focus your energy on the things that drive the business or company forward. Working ON the business vs. just IN the business.

Think about your personal goals

What do you need to do to achieve them? Is it travel? Self-care? An organized home or closet?

Recruit a friend to join you on that trip you’ve been wanting to take – it creates accountability and also helps spread the cost, making it easier to achieve the goal.

Hire a professional organizer to help you clear out the clutter in your home or closet.

Or, finally bring on the Personal Stylist who can help you clear out your closet, define your style and build a success wardrobe that helps you fulfill your personal and professional goals (when you look good you feel good and vice versa, which impacts your energy and how you approach work and play).

And go get that massage you’ve been putting off!

Finally, and most importantly, surround yourself with like-minded people. Again, the difference between GOOD and GREAT is the realization that you’ve found someone you need on your team you get them on your team… whether or not you’ve already recognized a role for them. In time, the perfect role will become quite clear.

The importance of having the right people around supporting you is as simple as the fact that they will naturally keep you in the mindset to achieve. You will feel this natural excitement around them. This is energy. The positive energy that propels you forward to reaching your goals.
