You asked, we answered!

On Instagram we asked which Closet Staple you’d like us to style for a ‘Wear Three Ways’ post and the Pencil Skirt was the clear winner!

While a staple, it’s also easy to fall into the trap of wearing your black pencil skirt the same way as a bit of uniform (and that’s OK … unless you’re bored!).

SO, here are a few ways you can think a bit differently about how you style YOUR pencil skirt for the office:

Not your typical black blazer.

The blazer + skirt combination is a time honored staple in the office BUT it doesn’t have to be your go-to. Mix up your “uniform” with an unexpected shape.

This cocoon fit works because the volume is balance by the slim fit of the skirt. For me, it also makes me a bit more comfortable with my curves in a professional setting (something I’m definitely mindful of so it’s complimentary to my style and my body, but also not distracting … yes, I don’t love that I have to think about this, but it’s a fact that I do!)

Another option to play with proportion would be to add a dramatic longer coat for the colder months.

Plum AND Red?

YES! Our clients know how we like to play with color. This combination makes the look unique and interesting. The peplum top is perfect for a pencil skirt because it defines the waist while adding volume for balance … all around a SHOW STOPPER.

BONUS: A peplum is a great tool for showing your shape and being a bit forgiving if you gain a little bit of weight.

Mixing patterns — encouraged!

Pairing floral heels with a geometric printed top adds dimension and fun to an otherwise basic ensemble.

The rule of thumb in mixing prints? Make sure there is at least one color that is the same in both prints. (As these are both black & white, it’s pretty easy!)

Mix + Match + Maximize, Ladies … it is a way of life!
